Concept 1 / 8
What is People Analytics?
People analytics — also called HR analytics — is the deeply data-driven and goal-focused practice of studying employee processes, challenges, engagement, performance, turnover, and opportunities in order to derive measures that advance sustainable business success. Put simply, it applies statistical insights extracted from workforce data to make more rational, evidence-based employee management decisions.
Interest in people analytics has grown substantially since the mid-2000s. Search trends from 2004 to 2018 show that "people analytics" and "HR analytics" emerged as the dominant labels, while related terms such as "talent analytics," "employee analytics," and "workforce analytics" also rose. "Human capital analytics" appeared early but became the least searched of the group. This trajectory reflects a broader organizational shift: HR functions that once relied on gut feeling are now expected to justify decisions with quantitative evidence.
With people analytics, smarter, more strategic, and data-backed workforce decisions become possible at every stage of the employee lifecycle — from hiring and onboarding through performance management and voluntary retention.
